The MAT@USC combines sophisticated interactive online learning with hands-on field-based study to create a comprehensive educational experience. Through use of innovative web 2.0 technologies and the experience of seasoned faculty, the MAT@USC has evolved to become a premier online Master of Arts in Teaching program.
Earn Your Alabama Teaching Certificate
Besides the online portion of the program, students interested in earning their Alabama teacher certification also take part in student teaching, or Guided Practice. Your Guided Practice will take place at a school nearby your home or work, regardless of where you live in Alabama, and will be supervised by a Guiding Teacher hand-selected and trained by USC faculty members. All the arrangements for a location to conduct your Guided Practice and a Guiding Teacher to supervise you will be made by specially trained USC faculty members, maintaining the rigorous standards of The MAT@USC.
Once you have successfully completed The MAT@USC Single or Multiple Subject Credential program and have satisfied the basic skills and subject area competency requirements, you will be eligible to be recommended for California preliminary teacher certification. If your goal is to teach in Alabama, your certification path will involve either becoming preliminarily certified in California, and then transferring that certification to Alabama through interstate reciprocity agreements; or applying directly to Alabama’s credentialing authority for certification. Our Student Services team will provide you with all the information and assistance you need to find the most efficient and effective path to becoming a certified teacher in Alabama.
