Through the utilization of innovative web 2.0 technologies and the expertise of dedicated professors and staff, the MAT@USC has evolved to become one of the leading online Master of Arts in Teaching programs.
Earn Your Alaska Teaching Certificate
Students interested in earning their Alaska teacher certification will also take part in student teaching, or Guided Practice. Your Guided Practice will take place at an elementary, middle or high school nearby your house or workplace, regardless of where you live in Alaska, and will be held under the guidance of a Guiding Teacher specifically prepped by The MAT@USC.
Once you have successfully completed the MAT@USC Single or Multiple Subject Credential program and have satisfied the basic skills and subject area competency requirements, you will be eligible to be recommended for California preliminary teacher certification. If your goal is to teach in Alaska or another state, your certification path will involve either becoming preliminarily certified in California, and then transferring that certification to Alaska through interstate reciprocity agreements; or applying directly to Alaska’s credentialing authority for certification. Our Student Services team will provide support and direction to help you identify the most direct and efficient path to local certification.

Ardis Ladean Tuisaula-Mutini hails from Western Samoa and began her MAT@USC journey with the January 2010 cohort. Ardis is currently pursuing her Master’s degree while working at Denali Montessori Elementary School as a bilingual tutor in the English Language Learners Program (ELLP). She has been with the Anchorage School District (ASD) for five years. While working with ELL students, Ardis began to see a bit of herself in them.
