Earn Your Arizona Teaching Certificate

In addition to the interactive, on-line portion of the program, students wishing to earn their Arizona teaching certification will participate in student teaching, also known as Guided Practice. Guided practice will take place at an elementary, middle or high school nearby your home or work, regardless of where you live in Arizona. Your Guided Practice will be held under the supervision of a Guiding Teacher specially picked and prepped by the MAT@USC. The MAT@USC will arrange for both the Guiding Teacher and a school close by to complete your Guided Practice, maintaining the rigorous standards of the MAT@USC.

Upon completion of the MAT@USC Single or Multiple Subject Credential program, and basic skills and subject area competency requirements, you will be eligible to be recommended for the California preliminary teacher certification. If your goal is to teach in Arizona or another state, your certification path will involve either becoming preliminarily certified in California, and then transferring that certification to Arizona through interstate reciprocity agreements; or applying directly to your Arizona’s credentialing authority for certification. Our Student Services team will provide support and direction to help you identify the most direct and efficient route to teaching certification.
