Earn Your California Teaching Certificate
Students seeking their California teacher certification are required to participate in student teaching or, Guided Practice. This Guided Practice, no matter where you live in California, will take place at a school close to you under the supervision of a Guiding Teacher, who have all been carefully selected and trained by USC staff. You will work closely with The MAT@USC to ensure proper placement and that all the rigorous standards of the MAT@USC are being met.
Once you have successfully completed the MAT@USC Single or Multiple Subject Credential program and have satisfied the basic skills and subject area competency requirements, you will be eligible to be recommended for California preliminary teacher certification. If your goal is to teach in another state, your certification path will involve either becoming preliminarily certified in California, and then transferring that certification to another state through interstate reciprocity agreements; or applying directly to another state’s credentialing authority for certification. Our Student Services team will provide support and direction to help you identify the most direct and efficient path to earn your California teaching credentials.
