Earn Your Colorado Teaching Certificate

Students looking to earn their Colorado teaching certification will participate in student teaching, also known as Guided Practice. Guided Practice takes place at an elementary, middle or high school close to your home or work, regardless of where you live in Colorado. Your Guided Practice will be overseen by a Guiding Teacher hand-picked by the MAT@USC. The MAT@USC will arrange for local schools in which to teach to maintain the rigorous standards of the MAT@USC.

Upon completion of the MAT@USC Single or Multiple Subject Credential program, and basic skills and subject area competency requirements, you will be eligible to be recommended for the California preliminary teacher certification. If your goal is to teach in Colorado or another state, your certification path will involve either becoming preliminarily certified in California, and then transferring that certification to Colorado through interstate reciprocity agreements; or applying directly to your Colorado’s credentialing authority for certification. Our Student Services team will provide support and direction to help you identify the most direct and efficient path to your Colorado teacher certification.
