Obtain Your Master of Arts in Teaching in Connecticut

Whether you live in Hartford, Bridgeport or anywhere else in Connecticut, you can earn your Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Southern California through the MAT@USC. Recently awarded the Best Practices Award for Innovative Use of Technology by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), the MAT@USC allows you to study in real time with USC’s esteemed professors and earn a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from one of the country’s most respected universities — all from your home in Connecticut.

The MAT@USC combines web 2.0 technologies, the expertise of distinguished USC professors and hands-on field-based experiences to create a thorough learning experience that is available to students who wish to become a teacher in Connecticut or anywhere else in the country.

Earn Your Connecticut Teaching Certificate

Students wanting to earn their Connecticut teaching certification will take part in student teaching, also known as Guided Practice. Guided Practice will take place at a school nearby your house or workplace. Your Guided Practice will be held under the supervision of a Guiding Teacher specially trained by the MAT@USC. A location to conduct your Guided Practice and a Guiding Teacher to supervise it will be organized by the MAT@USC, ensuring local schools in which to complete your Guided Practice and upholding the high standards of the MAT@USC.

Once you have completed the basic class requirements and have finished the MAT@USC Single or Multiple Subject Credential program, you are eligible to be recommended for a California teaching certification. If your goal is to teach in your home state of Connecticut, there are multiple steps you can take upon graduation to become certified. You can either apply to have your California certification transferred to Connecticut through interstate reciprocity, or apply directly to Connecticut’s certification board for to earn your Connecticut teacher certification.
