The groundbreaking MAT@USC offers the opportunity for a blended learning environment consisting of an interactive, online curriculum combined and hands-on field-based learning experiences. The online component utilizes state-of-the-art 2.0 technologies to fully immerse students in the program, even from as far away as Maine.
Earn Your Maine Teaching Certificate
The MAT@USC’s out-of-class component, for which each student working to receive their Maine teaching certification is required to participate, consists of a student teaching section or, Guided Practice. This Guided Practice will take place at a school close to you under the supervision of a Guiding Teacher who has been chosen and trained by the MAT@USC, so it doesn’t matter if you’re from Portland or the Northern Border. This will all be taken care of by the MAT@USC in order to ensure that all the rigorous standards of the MAT@USC are being met.
Upon completion of the MAT@USC Single or Multiple Subject Credential program, you will have satisfied the basic skills and subject area competency requirements, and will be eligible to be recommended for California preliminary teacher certification. If your goal is to teach in Maine, your certification path will involve either becoming preliminarily certified in California, and then transferring that certification to Maine through interstate reciprocity agreements; or applying directly to Maine’s credentialing authority for certification. Our Student Services team will provide support and direction to help you identify the most direct and efficient path to Maine teacher certification.
