Earn Your Michigan Teaching Certificate
The MAT@USC’s in-person teaching portion is required for students working to earn their Michigan teaching certification. This field experience, which is called Guided Practice, can be completed without much travel. No matter where you live in Michigan, the MAT@USC will work together with your local schools in order to arrange for you to teach under the supervision of a Guiding Teacher who has been selected and trained by the MAT@USC. With the MAT@USC, you can earn your MAT degree in Michigan, while at the same time meeting the rigorous standards of the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education.
At the conclusion of the MAT@USC Single or Multiple Subject Credential program, you will be eligible to be recommended for California preliminary teacher certification. If your goal is to teach in Michigan, your certification path will involve either becoming preliminarily certified in California, and then transferring that certification to Michigan through interstate reciprocity agreements; or applying directly to Michigan’s credentialing authority for certification. Our Student Services team will provide support and direction to help you identify the most direct and efficient path to Michigan teacher certification.
