Earn Your South Dakota Teaching Certificate

In addition to the extraordinary online class material and independent work, students working towards their South Dakota teaching certification will complete a comprehensive hands-on field-based experience or, Guided Practice. Working with school districts in your area of South Dakota, the MAT@USC places you in a classroom close to your home. This will all be taken care of by the MAT@USC in order to ensure that all the rigorous standards of the MAT@USC are being met.

Once you have successfully completed the MAT@USC Single or Multiple Subject Credential program and have satisfied the basic skills and subject area competency requirements, you will be eligible to be recommended for California preliminary teacher certification. If your goal is to teach in your own state, your certification path will involve either becoming preliminarily certified in California, and then transferring that certification to South Dakota through interstate reciprocity agreements; or applying directly to South Dakota’s credentialing authority for certification. Our Student Services team will provide support and direction to help you identify the most direct and efficient path to local teaching certification.
