Obtain Your Master of Arts in Teaching in Virginia
The MAT@USC gives you the opportunity to earn a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Southern California without having to move to Southern California. This is an incredible opportunity for anyone looking to become a teacher in Virginia.
The MAT@USC combines interactive online learning with hands-on field-based experience to provide a comprehensive learning experience. It makes little difference where in Virginia you are located, as the MAT@USC places you in local school districts to complete the Guided Practice that is required for students working towards their Virginia teacher certification. It is run by a Guiding Teacher who has been carefully selected and trained by the MAT@USC. Ask your Student Support specialist to learn more about the Guided Practice program.
Earn Your Virginia Teaching Certificate
If you are interested in earning your Virginia teaching certification you can elect to complete the MAT@USC Single or Multiple Subject Credential program. Once you have satisfied the basic skills and subject area competency requirements, you will be eligible to be recommended for California preliminary teacher certification. If you would prefer to teach in Virginia, your certification path will involve becoming preliminarily certified in California, and then transferring that certification to Virginia through interstate reciprocity agreements. You may also apply directly to Virginia’s credentialing authority for certification. Our Student Services team will provide you with all the information and assistance you need to find the most efficient and effective path to becoming a certified teacher in Virginia.
