With the MAT@USC, you earn a Master of Arts in Teaching from University of Southern California’s illustrious Rossier School of Education without having to leave the comfort of the District. Earn Your Washington D.C. Teaching Certificate

Students interested in pursuing Washington, D.C. teaching certification will complete a Guided Practice portion of the program. No matter where in Washington, D.C. you live, the MAT@USC will place you in a local classroom to complete the Guided Practice or assistant teaching portion of the degree. It is run by a Guiding Teacher who has been carefully selected and trained by the MAT@USC. Ask your Student Support specialist to learn more about the Guided Practice program.

Once you have successfully completed the MAT@USC Single or Multiple Subject Credential program and have satisfied the basic skills and subject area competency requirements, you will be eligible to be recommended for California state teaching certification. If you would prefer to teach in Washington, D.C., this certification can be easily transferred through interstate reciprocity agreements. You can also apply directly to the District of Columbia’s credential board to get certified directly. Our Student Services team will provide you with all the information and assistance you need to find the most efficient and effective path to becoming a certified teacher in Washington, D.C.
