Obtain Your Master of Arts in Teaching in Washington
If you live in Washington and are interested in earning your Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Southern California without moving to southern California, the MAT@USC is perfect for you. The University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education brings its reputation of superb quality and effectiveness online to give a wider audience access to its Master of Arts in Teaching program.
The MAT@USC blends interactive online learning with hands-on field-based experiences to provide a comprehensive learning experience. If you are working towards your Washington teacher certification then you are required to participate in the Guided Practice portion of the MAT@USC. No matter where in Washington you live, you will be placed in a local classroom for Guided Practice and assistant teaching. It is run by a Guiding Teacher who has been carefully selected and trained by the MAT@USC. Ask your student Support Specialist to learn more about the Guided Practice program.
Earn Your Washington Teaching Certificate
If you are interested in earning your Washington teaching certification, you can elect to complete the MAT@USC Single or Multiple Subject Credential program. Once you have completed the basic competency requirements of the program, you will be eligible to be recommended for California preliminary teacher certification. If your goal is to teach locally in Washington, your certification path will involve becoming preliminarily certified in California, and then transferring that certification to Washington through interstate reciprocity. You can also apply directly to Washington’s credentialing authority for certification. Our Student Services team will provide you with all the information and assistance you need to find the most efficient and effective path to becoming a certified teacher in Washington.

Jeff Freshwater is originally from Portland, OR, but he grew up just outside Seattle. He began his MAT@USC journey with the June 2009 cohort. Jeff attended high school in Minnesota, spending his junior and senior years at a college prep school in the city of Faribault, south of the Twin Cities.
