My name is Christine and I am a former Richmond, CA, high school counselor and currently in the final semester of the MAT@USC program. I am earning a Multiple Subject Credential with BCLAD certification. As a student teacher in a bilingual first-grade classroom on the Monument Corridor in Concord, CA, I find myself using a lot of the techniques and theories covered in MAT classes, especially 543A, Instruction for Limited English Proficient Students and 543B, Methods in Teaching English as a New Language.
As a former counselor who worked with students on motivation, study skills, college selection, conflict mediation and violence prevention, I am excited to get into the classroom and work with students in the capacity of teacher. In addition to finishing the MAT@USC, CI am also working as a freelance teacher with the Girls Leadership Institute, an organization that teaches skills in emotional intelligence and assertive self-expression. I’m looking forward to presenting research at the International Conference on Education in Hawaii in January, 2011. My topic is “Protecting Individual and Social Dynamics of Gifted Students: An Ethnographic Perspective.”
I am a 2002 graduate of Villanova University where I served as student body president my senior year. I am so excited to receive my MAT degree and work in education in 2011!
