Hello everyone! My name is Lindsey Townsend. I’m originally from Arkansas. Though I went to high school in Delaware, I returned to the south and studied English at the University of Arkansas.
Upon graduation, I married a serviceman and moved to Fort Rucker, Alabama. We now have a beautiful baby boy whose presence brings me joy and a reaffirmed desire to continue my pursuits as an educator.
As a young girl, I looked up to my grandmother – a 3rd grade teacher at Dardanelle elementary school. When I was eight, she loaned me recycled text books and leftover supplies to construct my own classroom. My only pupils were two younger siblings and a host of stuffed animals. Nonetheless; my foray into teaching had begun.
Throughout my adult life, I’ve encountered various unique teaching opportunities. In college, I was instrumental in starting and coaching the inaugural Arkansas Razorback Women’s Lacrosse Team. Recently, I tutored/mentored army youth for an after school program. These experiences both fueled my longing to educate and molded the teacher I’m becoming. As I’ve matured as an educator, I’ve gained a deep respect for this demanding, yet rewarding profession.
Along with the numerous blessings of military wifehood, the lifestyle brings distinct challenges – constant relocation, frequent separation from my spouse, and sudden placement in less-than-desirable job markets. With the MAT@USC program, the University of Southern California has provided a bridge between a complicated situation and my teaching aspirations. Through experienced instructors and a diverse student body, USC has proven a flexible, demanding and uplifting means of entering my chosen profession.
