Meet Margaret Jean Campbell

2011 is going to be a year of exciting possibilities for learners of all ages!

Hi, I’m Margaret Campbell, a fellow MAT@USC student, and a passionate advocate for “wow” learning environments and experiences for all children. I got into the teaching profession early in life. My first assignment was to show my third grade classmates how to knit and crochet. When I started to break the process down into smaller and smaller steps for my most yarn-challenged friends, I discovered the magic in this very special human exchange. I was hooked.

After years of teaching and coaching, in often wild and wooly situations and without formal teaching credentials, I finally found in MAT@USC a program that honors teaching as a world-changing endeavor. We all know that teachers change the world, student by student, but before MAT@USC, I had not found a program that prepares their students to take active positions at the front lines of change on a scale larger than the classroom.

In my posts, I will ask a lot of questions about the systems we find ourselves in and about the hidden pressures from these systems. I also plan to share educational “finds” and “discoveries.”

Thank you for welcoming me into your reading time, and I look forward to comments, criticisms and questions. I have pretty strong thoughts about the magnificence of human potential and about how many systems in our world are designed to benefit only certain types and classes of people.

The information published every day about education is overwhelming, and much of what is critical for us as world-changers to know can get lost in the clutter of unessential stuff and deliberately manipulated news. Let’s share what strikes us as important, especially when we have doubts.
