Greetings from the Windy City!
My name is Mike Feinberg, and I started the MAT@USC program in September of 2009. I graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington in the spring of 2006 with a degree in Secondary Education Social Studies. At the end of the summer after I graduated, I moved from Philadelphia to Chicago and took a job as a special education assistant for a boy with autism. This was one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career to date. I worked with this young man for two years before moving to the school where I currently teach.
At this charter school, I teach 7th and 8th grade social studies to a wonderful group of adolescents. This is my third year at this particular school, and I couldn’t be happier! However, I knew that I could achieve more professionally, and I needed help to do this. I figured I should start looking into Master’s programs. What I found was that the commute between my school and most of the programs here in Chicago would be difficult and extremely time consuming. Enter the MAT @ USC.
Being able to complete my master’s degree from home while teaching is truly unbelievable! The MAT@USC program allows me to grow professionally as an educator, as much of the work that I have done in my program allowed me to focus my studies on working with students in urban environments, much like the one where I teach now. I will be finished with this program by Thanksgiving of 2010, and could not be happier with the results.
