New beginnings and community building

Hello world!

My name is Alexa Scordato and I’m the new Community Manager for the MAT@USC!  In this new role, I’ll be connecting with prospective students, current students and alumni to help foster our growing community of educators, learners, and leaders.

Alexa ScordatoI am currently based in New York as part of 2tor, the company that built the 2SC platform and handles logistic support for the program. I’m passionate about using new technologies to create relationships, empower individuals, and transform organizations; I believe that the MAT@USC is helping to change the world of education, and couldn’t be happier to be part of this exciting movement.
There are an infinite number of things that I’d like to work on in the future (universal basic education, a Lady Gaga halftime show at a Trojans game… ) but for now, here’s a snapshot of what I’ll be working on this summer:

1.     Getting to know you. We currently have over 1,000 students enrolled in the MAT@USC program and a newly graduated cohort of 82 alumni.  Each of you has a unique story to tell and I hope to hear as many of them as I can.

2.     Creating a Student Ambassador program.   There’s a lot of USC pride out there and I’d like to capture as much of it as possible.  This means helping organize local meetups, creating peer-mentorship opportunities, and finding students who can share their MAT@USC story with prospective students.

3.     Last but certainly not least, I want to help improve our overall communication efforts online.  This is inclusive of this blog, the 2SC platform, and the various social media channels out there.  We have a compelling story to tell, and I want to make sure that we collectively showcase that in as many ways as possible.

Again, I’m excited to be a part of this community; consider this the first of many posts to come!  If you want to introduce yourself or say hi, please leave a comment below or drop me a note at alexa.scordato (at) usc (dot) edu.
