MAT@USC Professor Corinne Hyde is expecting her first child in January and with a recent move from Southern California to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she had low expectations for her Baby Shower. Instead of cancelling her shower altogether, Professor Hyde held a virtual baby shower attended by friends, family and colleagues around the country by using the MAT@USC technology.

Professor Hyde explained the technology to local media, the Baton Rouge Advocate:
- When it’s time for class, everybody logs in using Adobe Connect, which allows us to see and interact with everybody in the ‘classroom.’ It also allows us to watch videos or have everyone read the same thing and engage in a conversation about it. It’s small group, collaborative learning.
Using the technology she normally uses for class, her Shower went off without a hitch:
- The ones in Los Angeles all got together in one location, which was decorated in Hyde’s chosen Dr. Seuss nursery theme, for punch and cake bearing the USC logo. The other attendees logged in from home or work the afternoon (Baton Rouge time) of November 4.
After taking part via Power Point in a round of Dr. Seuss-themed shower games, Hyde opened her gifts, which had been shipped earlier to her home.
