Hi there! Born and raised in Lima, Peru, I moved to the United States in my late teens and attended college in San Francisco after deciding that I wanted to pursue a career in International Business. During my last year of college, I volunteered at a sand castle contest for my husband’s job in partnership with an elementary school. I was “discovered” there as a “natural” and soon after got hired as a Special Ed. Paraprofessional. It was the best job ever, but it was too late to change majors.
After experiencing a change of heart, I decided that being a teacher was my calling and I needed to go back to school to get my masters in education. However, marriage and children were still my priority. Shortly after moving to Hawaii (The Big Island), I started working as a substitute teacher and really wanted to pursue my education degree; unfortunately, the University of Hilo is about 2 hours away from home!
With a bit of research, I discovered the MAT@USC program. I was extremely happy to find an innovative program from such a prestigious university that incorporates new research, technology, and first class professors. I was delighted to be accepted and be part of the “new wave” of teachers who get the best hands-on training available. It has been a long journey, but every single moment has been worthwhile! Fight on!
