Hi, my name is Teresa. I am a wife, mother of two girls and also a career-switcher who pursued a long deferred dream of education. I earned a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies at University of Virginia in 2009. Upon graduation, I worked as an instructional assistant in an exceptional education department under great leadership. At the MAT@USC program, I reignited my belief in authentic learning experiences for diverse populations. I spend my free time poolside with family and friends, immersed in local history, and perfecting my gardening skills.
I joined the May, 2010 cohort at the MAT@ USC program to help reach my goals of being an agent of change and making positive, lasting impressions on my students. I believe that the learning arising from theories I apply in the classroom, are profound and revealing. The result is unlimited data to shape learning, so none of my students are marginalized. The MAT@USC program, delivered online using 21st century technologies, allows me to experience education in the same manner that many of my students will someday receive their college education. I feel connected to MAT@USC because I know my professors care about me and about my success in the classroom.
My future plans include starting a community based organization that collaborates with local agencies to provide authentic learning experiences for high school students and teaching in the public schools.
The MAT@USC enables aspiring teachers from across the country to earn their Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education.
