Hi, my name is Tawio Barksdale. I am a Math Coach in the Greenville County School district in Greenville, SC, and am the father of a seven year old son. I have been in education for ten years and have been a first, fifth and seventh grade classroom teacher. In addition, I have taught, mentored and coached all levels from grades one through twelve.
I spent three years away from education as a financial advisor, but my passion for education inspired me to return to teaching. My inspiration to become a teacher came from substitute teaching experiences while in college. I valued establishing productive relationships with students and being an agent for promoting advancement and change in the lives of children.
Having served in two title one schools and four inner-city schools, I feel that it’s important to learn more about implementing effective strategies in teaching in urban schools- this was my motivation for pursuing the MAT@USC program.
