Last Saturday, students in the January cohort met for a special Homecoming tailgate on campus. Sarah Stultz and Jessie Morris rallied the troops and were joined by their classmates from different parts of the country. Students spotted on the scene include: Lauren De Wees, Katie Alison, Christine Gulapan, Joelle Schwartz, Michael Morgan, Ebow Morgan, Jennie Morgan, Tara Prieto, and Tiffany Shirley.
Although the Trojans lost to the Oregon Ducks, we had a great time meeting each other in person and participating in the various festivities on campus. Rossier had a special carnival-themed booth complete with corn dogs and prizes. Dr. Brandon Martinez and Dr. John Pascarella also made an appearance and spent some time catching up with students who stopped by.
All in all, the experience really celebrated the spirit of the USC community. Here’s a list of takeaways for future students looking to participate in Homecoming or connect with fellow Trojans offline:
- Even if you live outside the LA-area, you have the ability to purchase discounted tickets as a USC student. Whether you plan to visit campus or you make it out to a road game, witnessing USC school spirit firsthand is always an experience.
- Want to meet your classmates in person? Plan ahead! Sarah started a Facebook event for Homecoming back in March giving everyone enough time to make their travel plans.
- Don’t be shy! If you want to organize an event, reach out to your peers and find a co-organizer. You can also reach out to me and I can help you connect with students in your area. When it comes to actually meeting students in person, I’ve always found that it seems like everyone already knows each other so well. Given the amount of time tudents spend in study groups or in class, on email, Facebook, etc. it’s not surprise that offline friendships are quite a common occurrence in the MAT@USC.

Whether you are an alumni, current student, on-campus or online, one of USC’s biggest assets is the Trojan network. Definitely make the most of it in your time in the program and beyond.
