Admission to the MAT@USC program is competitive and selective. The Admissions Committee seeks students whose academic background, professional goals, personal commitment, and communication skills meet the demands of the program, and show promise for a successful career as a teacher.
Academic Background
All candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Applicants whose prior study was outside the United States must have completed the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree. Prior coursework in education is not required.
Language Requirement
Applicants whose native language is not English, and who do not have a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university, will be required to submit a valid score from the TOEFL Internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT).
Employment Information
You will be asked to submit the names of your past employers and upload your most current résumé or curriculum vitae (CV).
Personal Essays
The MAT@USC application requires you to complete three essays. These essays allow the Admissions Committee to gain a deeper understanding of your past experiences and passions for the future. In addition, the essays allow you to demonstrate the written communication skills that are critical for success in the program.
Recommendation Letters
A minimum of two letters of recommendation are required and should come from supervisors and colleagues who can comment on the value you have added to your workplaces. You can also submit letters from former instructors who can describe your ability to perform well in graduate-level courses.
Application Fee
The USC application fee is $85.
Transcripts
Sealed official academic transcripts must be sent directly to USC from all postsecondary institutions you attended, including any community college coursework.
