I’ve decided to blog about the most recent education issues, achievements and happenings – namely in public education. It’s funny, before you begin studying to be a teacher you hear about the obstacles public school teachers and students are facing; often the problems are regarding budget or lack thereof. While hearing about these things you don’t pay much attention, at least I didn’t, it all sounded so familiar.
It is incredible how being a student in this program has opened up my eyes to the consequences of these educational “cuts” and to the importance of educational policy. That is what is so great about the MAT@USC, it teaches you so much more than just being the best teacher in the classroom. It teaches you to be a better teacher all together, to pay attention to policies around you, to the effects those policies are having on the students in your classroom – the program has taught me to fight for what is right for my students!
OK, so I realize educational policy may sound a little boring, but it isn’t! More importantly, as teachers we have to remember educational policy affects every single one of us! I will be discussing everything from class size, to tracking, teacher certification, graduation requirements, etc. Every state is incredibly different in their standards and what they expect of their students and teachers, and that is significant information for educators. Furthermore, there are so many debates and controversies within the field of education, so there will be plenty of opportunities for comments and feedback from readers!
I am so excited to share my findings and stories with all of you!
